Travel {Mauritius}

We had the privilege of staying at La Pirogue near Flic en Flac in Mauritius in May. It’s perfectly located on the protected west coast (less wind and rain apparently) and shares facilities with their sister hotel Sugar Beach Resort and it is within walking distance of The Sands and The Hilton.

Although we we spent much of our time just relaxing (and of course finalising details for our wedding) and keeping busy with all the water sports on offer, I did manage to take a few photos whilst we were there. Lots of silhouettes at sunset it seems.. the sunsets where spectacular! Oh just being there was spectacular..

We also went across to the east side of the island to the Le Touesrok resort from where you can catch the boat across to the 18-hole golf resort. Whilst some of the guys of course wanted to get to know the golf course a bit better others got to enjoy the beauty of the lagoon and beach at Ile aux Cerfs.

Back at La Pirogue/Sugar Beach, the evenings were livened up various entertainers, including the traditional Mauritian sega dancers.

Hawaii, USA

I had the most amazing time in Hawaii recently. I love the Aloha spirit.. such beautiful islands and friendly people and so much fun to be had. Iit was a very special time indeed.. And I’m a very, very happy girl indeed!

Along the amazing “Road to Hana”.. 52 miles of beautiful coastline and through gorgeous rainforest with many waterfalls along the way as well as 620 bends and turns and over 59 bridges (46 of which are one-lane only!) We SURVIVED the Road to Hana indeed!

Wailea Coastline.. Isn’t this just the most perfect place in the world to be proposed to!! Maui nõ ka ‘oi!

Venezia, Italy

For the bank holiday I escaped for the weekend with my best friend to Venice – it’s my third visit in recent years as I *LOOOOOOVE* photographing there. I’m holding thumbs that I’ll get to photograph a wedding there soon!

Here are a few of my favourites from the weekend:

I love the islands of Murano and Burano and we had a great time photographing all the colourful glass, coloured buildings and various textures. I also had a great play around with various solid one colour backgrounds with my friend and seeing and comparing how differing colours and tones suit some people better in portrait photography. Venezia and her islands really is a photographer’s dream!

South Africa – February 2008

I recently went back to South Africa and as it may be several years before I return to my old hometown, I wanted to document some of my favourite beaches there. Here’s a few from sunrise at Umtentweni beach:

We took a drive all the way down the coast as far as Port Edward and stopped at all our favourite beaches on the way back – Trafalgar, Southbroom, Kids Beach and Ramsgate. These are from Palm Beach:

Happy Anniversary Don and Michelle

Don and Michelle were married near my home town in South Africa in 2004 on a beautiful, HOT, summers day. I was very priviledged to have been their photographer and we all had a great time dancing the night away under African skies.

Some of the images from their day have always remained firm favourites of mine. Here’s just a couple..

Italy: Amalfi Coast

We made the most of the recent long weekend and got out of London for a bit. We stayed in Naples the first night, but quickly moved on, crazy Italian drivers spurring me on! to Sorrento.

From Sorrento we could explore Pompeii (Vesuvius was closed because of the weather on the day much to the relief of some not so eager for the hike up the mountain!) and the Isle of Capri.

A must see stop on the round trip of Capri is the Grotta Azzurra (Blue Grotto). The water and light is just amazing! And our Italian oarsman serrenading the girls didn’t go a stray either (they don’t all look so grumpy)!

We then moved on to Positano for the remainder of our stay and it’s true what the guide books say – it is the most photographed of the villages and picture postcard perfect. Oh and yes, where other towns have streets Positano has stairs! And lots of them! No kidding..

From Positano we also explored Amalfi and the mountain villages of Ravello and Montepertuso – this stretch of the coast has the most amazing views of the Med.

The food is fanastic (best pizza ever in Ravello!) and each little village has something special and unique to offer.

Plenty cereamics and Lemoncello too..

South Africa

Jefferies Bay.. from sleepy lil surfing and fishing village to fast-expanding holiday destination..

Jbay – famous for it’s surfing.. although not perfect without the winter swell..

Time to relax and do as little as possible.. except for the occassional walk on the beach..

Zimbabwe

So here we go, I thought I’d start by sharing a few of my favourite images from my recent trip home to South Africa and neighbouring Zimbabwe.

I’d hoped we’d find the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow at Victoria Falls and we were so *close*!

I saw the stariest skies ever when we were in the middle of the bush one evening after a game drive.. like diamonds on a midnight blue blanket..

I always love silhouettes, especially at sunset..

Waking up to the sounds of nature and elephants feeding in the bay next to where our houseboat had anchored the night was one of the reasons I can’t wait to go back to Kariba again some time..

I’d always heard about how beautiful the sunsets at Kariba were and I wasn’t disappointed! The most awesome sunset of 2006 had to be on old year’s eve..

And beautiful, peaceful Mazvikadei..

I loved Zim for it’s natural beauty – it’s a country with so much to offer.. and having my own personal tourguide of course did help a little but I also met so many lovely people who made my stay extra special. Thank you, thank you!
